Powder room & laundry into a small bathroom
“We are delighted with our new bathroom. Tony made the entire process very easy for us, which is what you want when renovating. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very patient with all our questions and provided great advice on the design and installation. The workmanship was of high quality and the quote was highly competitive. Highly recommend Tony and his team!”
Bathroom renovations: stressless and wonderful
“Thank you, Tony and your team, for a stressless and wonderful bathroom renovation. Our 4-year-old townhouse bathroom and ensuite showers had serious leakage issues, with water leaking into the walls and between floors. The builder was happy to silicone the problem as a solution. The only options were to replace the showers, or a full renovation for both rooms. We chose the latter. Tony provided a competitive quote. Despite the inevitable out-of-square bathroom issues, the job was completed without stress, on-time and in budget, and the finish was fabulous. And square. We are now looking at a kitchen update. Tony, find some time. Highly recommend Tony and the team.”
Wow! Now that's a bathroom
“In such difficult times we were so grateful that we picked Tony and his crew to renovate our bathroom. His knowledge of the industry and his attention to detail is second to none. Tony was always easy to contact and happy to discuss any issues. The standard of workmanship was outstanding. We love our new bathroom!”
Renovating Bathrooms in Moonee Ponds Homes
Moonee Ponds’ Victorian villas and Edwardian houses often still have one main bathroom, sometimes in a rear addition with a timber floor, while apartments have compact bathrooms and newer townhouses often have two. Original bathrooms tend to be small and cold, with limited ventilation. Families often want a second bathroom as their needs grow.
That shapes most Moonee Ponds bathroom renovations: rebuilding period bathrooms with proper waterproofing over timber floors, adding an ensuite to the main bedroom, converting a bath into a walk-in shower, and refreshing apartment bathrooms within fixed layouts. We also check old pipework while the floor is open. Most internal work doesn’t need a planning permit from the City of Moonee Valley, and we work with owners corporations for apartment bathrooms.

Before You Start
What to Plan For in a Moonee Ponds Bathroom
Layout
Ensuites in Double-Fronted Villas
Double-fronted Victorian villas in Moonee Ponds, like those in the Lorne Street precinct, have large front rooms either side of a central hall, with service rooms at the back. A big front bedroom can sometimes give up space for an ensuite, while the main bathroom stays at the rear near the existing plumbing. We map the pipe runs first.
Apartments
Bathrooms in Newer Apartments
Moonee Ponds has many newer apartments, including the Moonee Valley Park buildings beside the racecourse and blocks near Puckle Street. Their bathrooms are only a few years old, so updates tend to be finishes, storage and lighting. Builder warranty, owners corporation rules and the building’s waterproofing details all need checking before work starts.
Design
High Ceilings and Period Character
Edwardian houses in Moonee Ponds, including the brick houses built in 1914 and 1915 in Sydenham Street, often have high ceilings, decorative cornices and timber windows. Keeping these features while renewing the plumbing, waterproofing and tiling gives a bathroom that suits the house. Taller wall tiling and pendant lighting can make good use of the height.
Plumbing
A Second Toilet for the Family
Families in Moonee Ponds’ larger period homes often want a second bathroom or a powder room. A toilet and basin under the stairs, in part of the old laundry or in a new rear extension takes pressure off the main bathroom in the morning rush. Where it can go usually depends on where the sewer runs, which we check first.
Ventilation
Ventilating Tall Rooms
Original rear bathrooms in Moonee Ponds homes often rely on a high window for ventilation, which isn’t enough for daily showers. A ducted exhaust fan to outside, sized for the room’s volume, reduces condensation on high ceilings and cornices. We also check whether old ceiling vents are blocked or simply venting into the roof space.

Does the City of Moonee Valley need to approve my bathroom renovation?
For internal work, generally not. Parts of Moonee Ponds are in Heritage Overlay precincts, such as the Lorne Street precinct, where external changes like a new window or a skylight visible from the street may need a planning permit. Our licensed plumbers and electricians provide the compliance certificates, and we check overlays before work starts.
Can I add an ensuite to my Moonee Ponds villa?
Often, yes. A large front bedroom or a rear sleepout can sometimes give up space for a compact ensuite. The main challenge is running waste pipes to the sewer, which usually sits at the back or side of the block. We look under the floor and at the property’s drainage plan before suggesting where it can go.
Our Moonee Ponds apartment bathroom is still under warranty. Can we renovate?
You can, but changing waterproofed areas may affect warranty claims on the original work, so it is worth checking the terms first. Many owners of newer apartments stick to changes such as vanities, mirrors, tapware and lighting. Any work in the building also needs owners corporation approval, which we help arrange.
Will updating the bathroom help when selling my Moonee Ponds period home?
Buyers of period homes in Moonee Ponds often love the character but still expect a bathroom that works well. Fixing leaks and damp, improving ventilation and updating tired fittings in a style that suits the house helps it present well. If the house has only one toilet, adding a second one is worth considering when time allows.
