Powder room & laundry into a small bathroom
“We are delighted with our new bathroom. Tony made the entire process very easy for us, which is what you want when renovating. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very patient with all our questions and provided great advice on the design and installation. The workmanship was of high quality and the quote was highly competitive. Highly recommend Tony and his team!”
Bathroom renovations: stressless and wonderful
“Thank you, Tony and your team, for a stressless and wonderful bathroom renovation. Our 4-year-old townhouse bathroom and ensuite showers had serious leakage issues, with water leaking into the walls and between floors. The builder was happy to silicone the problem as a solution. The only options were to replace the showers, or a full renovation for both rooms. We chose the latter. Tony provided a competitive quote. Despite the inevitable out-of-square bathroom issues, the job was completed without stress, on-time and in budget, and the finish was fabulous. And square. We are now looking at a kitchen update. Tony, find some time. Highly recommend Tony and the team.”
Wow! Now that's a bathroom
“In such difficult times we were so grateful that we picked Tony and his crew to renovate our bathroom. His knowledge of the industry and his attention to detail is second to none. Tony was always easy to contact and happy to discuss any issues. The standard of workmanship was outstanding. We love our new bathroom!”
Renovating Bathrooms in Westmeadows Homes
Bathrooms in Westmeadows’ brick veneer homes often date from the 1970s or 1980s, with feature tiles, coloured fixtures, a bath with a shower over it and sometimes a small ensuite. Showers of that age often have ageing waterproofing, separate toilets and small vanities are typical, and families often want more space and storage.
Common bathroom projects here are full remodels with new waterproofing and tiling, walk-in showers, larger vanities with storage, and enlarging or adding ensuites, along with accessible showers and grab rails for older residents. A bathroom inside the house rarely needs planning approval from Hume City Council, and the licensed plumbers and electricians on our team handle the compliance certificates.

Before You Start
What to Plan For in a Westmeadows Bathroom
Design
Coloured Suites and Feature Tiles
Many Westmeadows bathrooms still have a coloured bath, basin and toilet with patterned feature tiles from the 1970s or 80s. Replacing the whole suite usually makes more sense than matching individual pieces, since those colours are hard to find. If you like the retro look, we can keep the layout and choose new fixtures that suit it.
Layout
Tight 1980s Ensuites
Ensuites in 1980s Westmeadows homes are often a narrow room with a small shower, a toilet and a single basin. A wider shower may be possible by moving the toilet to the other side of the room or taking in part of the robe, while a wall-hung vanity and frameless screen open up the floor. We check framing and drainage first.
Access
A Bathroom for Later Years
Some Westmeadows residents have lived in their homes for decades and want to stay. A level-entry shower, slip-resistant tiles, grab rails fixed to blocking in the wall, a hand shower on a sliding rail and a higher toilet make the bathroom safer. We plan these so some features can be added now and others later.
Asbestos
Asbestos Behind the Tiles
Westmeadows homes built before 1990 may have asbestos cement sheet behind bathroom tiles, in the ceiling or in the eaves above the window. Testing before demolition shows what is present, and larger quantities are removed by a licensed removalist. We build this into the plan so it does not hold up the renovation once work starts.
Waterproofing
Showers Built Before Today’s Standards
Showers in 1970s and 80s homes were often built with less waterproofing than current standards require, so leaks into the wall frame or slab are common. Signs include loose tiles, stained skirting and a musty smell. We remove the old shower completely and waterproof the floor and walls to the Australian Standard before tiling.

Can you keep a retro look in my Westmeadows bathroom?
Yes. Some owners like the character of their 1970s bathroom. We can use similar colours, terrazzo-look or patterned tiles and timber vanities, with modern waterproofing, plumbing and lighting underneath. The result keeps the feel of the original room while fixing leaks and improving storage and ventilation.
How long will a bathroom renovation take in Westmeadows?
Most bathrooms take 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the scope, asbestos testing and tile choices. In Westmeadows homes with an ensuite, you can use it while we work on the main bathroom. If there is only one bathroom, we discuss temporary arrangements before we begin, so the household knows what to expect.
Do I need a permit to renovate my Westmeadows bathroom?
Not usually. Internal bathroom renovations rarely need a planning permit from Hume City Council, even near the old village area, because heritage controls mostly affect the exterior. The important parts are licensed plumbing, a waterproofing membrane installed to the Australian Standard and electrical work signed off with a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
Should we update our Westmeadows bathroom before selling?
Buyers looking at 1970s and 80s homes in Westmeadows often expect some updating, but leaks, mould and cracked tiles may be noted in a building inspection. Fixing those problems, regrouting, replacing the shower screen and updating taps can freshen an older bathroom. A complete renovation is best for owners who plan to stay.
