Powder room & laundry into a small bathroom
“We are delighted with our new bathroom. Tony made the entire process very easy for us, which is what you want when renovating. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very patient with all our questions and provided great advice on the design and installation. The workmanship was of high quality and the quote was highly competitive. Highly recommend Tony and his team!”
Bathroom renovations: stressless and wonderful
“Thank you, Tony and your team, for a stressless and wonderful bathroom renovation. Our 4-year-old townhouse bathroom and ensuite showers had serious leakage issues, with water leaking into the walls and between floors. The builder was happy to silicone the problem as a solution. The only options were to replace the showers, or a full renovation for both rooms. We chose the latter. Tony provided a competitive quote. Despite the inevitable out-of-square bathroom issues, the job was completed without stress, on-time and in budget, and the finish was fabulous. And square. We are now looking at a kitchen update. Tony, find some time. Highly recommend Tony and the team.”
Wow! Now that's a bathroom
“In such difficult times we were so grateful that we picked Tony and his crew to renovate our bathroom. His knowledge of the industry and his attention to detail is second to none. Tony was always easy to contact and happy to discuss any issues. The standard of workmanship was outstanding. We love our new bathroom!”
Renovating Bathrooms in Greensborough Homes
Greensborough stayed largely rural until after the Second World War, and many homes still have their original bathrooms from the 1960s to 1980s building boom, with coloured tiles, small showers and separate toilets. Larger homes often have an ensuite that is just as dated, and split level homes can have bathrooms on different floors, which brings extra challenges with plumbing and access.
That shapes most of our Greensborough bathroom renovations: replacing original bathrooms with modern layouts and full waterproofing, adding or enlarging ensuites, converting baths to walk-in showers, and fitting step free showers, grab rails and better lighting for older owners who want to stay in their homes. Most interior bathroom work doesn’t need a planning permit from Banyule City Council, or Nillumbik Shire Council for the part of Greensborough it covers, and our licensed trades handle all compliance for plumbing and electrical work.

Before You Start
What to Plan For in a Greensborough Bathroom
Layout
Original 1960s and 1970s Layouts
Many Greensborough homes from the post-war building boom have a small bathroom with a bath and shower over it, and a separate toilet next door. Combining the two rooms, or swapping the bath for a walk-in shower, is a common change. We check where the waste pipes run under the floor before suggesting a layout.
Slope
Bathrooms in Split Level Homes
On Greensborough’s hilly blocks, split level homes may have a bathroom upstairs over a garage or rumpus room. A leak there damages the ceiling below, so waterproofing to the Australian Standard and the drainage fall to the floor waste get extra attention. Moving fixtures can be harder too, because pipes run through a suspended floor.
Accessibility
Staying at Home as You Age
Many Greensborough owners have lived in their homes for decades and want a bathroom that suits them later in life. A step free shower, a wider door, grab rails or blocking in the walls for future rails, a comfort-height toilet and good lighting can be included without making the room look clinical.
Asbestos
Asbestos in Older Bathrooms
Bathrooms built or updated before 1990 can have asbestos cement sheeting in walls, ceilings or behind tiles, which is common in homes from this era. Suspect material is checked before demolition starts, and larger amounts must be removed by a licensed asbestos removalist. We allow for this in the written quote.
Design
Ensuites in Larger Family Homes
Brick veneer family homes in Greensborough from the 1970s and 1980s often have a small ensuite squeezed beside the main bedroom. Taking space from a built-in robe or reworking the layout can fit a larger shower and double vanity. We check the wall structure and plumbing access at the first visit.

Bathroom Renovations In and Around Greensborough
Greensborough (3088) is about 17 km north-east of the Melbourne CBD, and well within our regular service area. We renovate bathrooms in Greensborough and its neighbouring suburbs, with the same team, the same fixed pricing and the same attention to detail.
Bathroom Renovations MelbourneWhich council handles permits for my Greensborough bathroom?
Most of Greensborough is in Banyule City Council, but part of the suburb is in Nillumbik Shire Council, with the boundary following part of the Greensborough Bypass. Your rates notice or VicPlan will confirm which applies. Internal bathroom work usually does not need a planning permit either way, and we check requirements before work starts.
Can you make my Greensborough bathroom easier to use as I get older?
Yes. Common changes are a step free shower with a fold-down seat, grab rails, slip resistant tiles, a higher toilet and better lighting. These can be designed to look like a normal modern bathroom. We talk through what you need now and what may help later.
How long will a bathroom renovation take in Greensborough?
Expect most bathroom jobs to run 2 to 4 weeks. Upstairs bathrooms in split level homes, or rooms where we find rotten floor framing or old pipes, can take a little longer. We tell you as soon as we find anything that affects the timeline.
Can we turn the bath into a shower in our 1970s Greensborough home?
Usually, yes. Removing the bath frees space for a larger walk-in shower. If you have young children or plan to sell to families, keeping a bath somewhere in the house may still be worth considering. We show you both options on a plan.
Is updating the bathroom worthwhile before selling or leasing in Greensborough?
Many Greensborough homes date from the 1960s to the 1980s, so bathrooms often have coloured tiles, a bath with an overhead shower and a separate toilet. Buyers and renters expect a room that is clean, dry and works well rather than a complete makeover. Fixing leaks, regrouting and replacing tired tapware and vanities are good first steps. For rentals, Victoria’s rental minimum standards require a washbasin, a shower or bath, and hot and cold water.
