Powder room & laundry into a small bathroom
“We are delighted with our new bathroom. Tony made the entire process very easy for us, which is what you want when renovating. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very patient with all our questions and provided great advice on the design and installation. The workmanship was of high quality and the quote was highly competitive. Highly recommend Tony and his team!”
Bathroom renovations: stressless and wonderful
“Thank you, Tony and your team, for a stressless and wonderful bathroom renovation. Our 4-year-old townhouse bathroom and ensuite showers had serious leakage issues, with water leaking into the walls and between floors. The builder was happy to silicone the problem as a solution. The only options were to replace the showers, or a full renovation for both rooms. We chose the latter. Tony provided a competitive quote. Despite the inevitable out-of-square bathroom issues, the job was completed without stress, on-time and in budget, and the finish was fabulous. And square. We are now looking at a kitchen update. Tony, find some time. Highly recommend Tony and the team.”
Wow! Now that's a bathroom
“In such difficult times we were so grateful that we picked Tony and his crew to renovate our bathroom. His knowledge of the industry and his attention to detail is second to none. Tony was always easy to contact and happy to discuss any issues. The standard of workmanship was outstanding. We love our new bathroom!”
Renovating Bathrooms in Heidelberg Homes
Heidelberg’s housing spans more than a century, so bathrooms vary from old rear additions in Victorian homes to original 1950s and 1960s bathrooms in postwar houses with pastel tiles and a bath under the shower. Units and apartments around the Austin Hospital and the Burgundy Street shops often have small bathrooms that have never been updated.
In Heidelberg, bathroom work usually means rebuilding old bathrooms with full waterproofing, adding ensuites to period and postwar homes, replacing baths with walk-in showers, and modernising compact unit bathrooms with smarter storage and better ventilation. Most interior bathroom work doesn’t need a planning permit from Banyule City Council, and in units and apartments we work with your owners corporation on access and approvals.

Before You Start
What to Plan For in a Heidelberg Bathroom
Layout
Original Postwar Bathrooms
Postwar houses across Heidelberg’s middle streets often still have the bathroom they were built with: pastel tiles, a bath with an overhead shower and a separate toilet next door. Removing the wall between bathroom and toilet, or moving the vanity, often creates room for a walk-in shower. We confirm where the stack and floor waste sit before drawing a layout.
Apartments
Unit Bathrooms Near the Hospitals
Blocks of units and newer apartments around Burgundy Street and the Austin Hospital usually have small bathrooms with fixed plumbing positions and a slab floor above the unit below. Owners corporation approval, waterproofing that protects the neighbour underneath and agreed work hours are all part of the job. We arrange these before work begins.
Structure
Rear Bathrooms in Victorian Homes
In Heidelberg’s older Victorian and Edwardian homes, the bathroom was often added later at the back, in a lean-to with a timber floor that may have been wet for decades. Rotten joists and bearers are common once the floor is lifted. We allow for checking and replacing framing so the new waterproofing and tiles sit on a sound base.
Ventilation
Mould in Small Rooms
Compact bathrooms in Heidelberg units and postwar homes often rely on a small window or a ceiling vent, which leads to mould on grout and ceilings. A properly sized exhaust fan ducted outside, linked to the light or a humidity sensor, fixes most problems. In apartment buildings, the duct route may need owners corporation approval.
Heritage
Homes in the Warringal Village Precinct
Some Heidelberg homes sit in the Warringal Village heritage precinct around Jika Street, Burgundy Street and Heidelberg Park, and others are individually listed. Internal bathroom work is generally not controlled, but a new window, external vent or roof penetration that can be seen from the street may need a planning permit. We check this early.

Bathroom Renovations In and Around Heidelberg
Heidelberg (3084) is about 11 km north-east of the Melbourne CBD, and well within our regular service area. We renovate bathrooms in Heidelberg and its neighbouring suburbs, with the same team, the same fixed pricing and the same attention to detail.
Bathroom Renovations MelbourneCan you renovate a bathroom in a Heidelberg apartment building?
Yes. Apartments near Burgundy Street and the hospitals usually need owners corporation approval for wet-area work, especially where waterproofing and floor wastes affect the unit below. We provide the details the owners corporation asks for, protect common areas, follow the building’s work hours and keep noisy work to agreed times.
How long will my Heidelberg bathroom renovation take?
Most bathrooms take 2 to 4 weeks. Unit bathrooms are small, though owners corporation rules on work hours can add time. Older Victorian or postwar bathrooms in Heidelberg with damaged floor framing or old pipes can take longer, and we tell you as soon as we find anything that changes the timeline.
Is asbestos likely in my Heidelberg bathroom?
If the bathroom was built or updated before 1990, which covers most of Heidelberg’s postwar houses and older units, asbestos cement sheeting may be in the walls, ceiling or under the tiles. Suspect material is tested before demolition, and larger amounts must be removed by a licensed removalist. We include this in the written quote.
Should I renovate the bathroom in my Heidelberg unit before selling or leasing it?
Many Heidelberg units near the hospitals and the station still have their original small bathrooms. A full renovation is not always needed: a new vanity, tapware, shower screen, exhaust fan and regrouting can lift a tired room. If the shower is leaking into the unit below, fix that properly first, because it will involve the owners corporation either way and will be noticed by inspectors.
