Powder room & laundry into a small bathroom
“We are delighted with our new bathroom. Tony made the entire process very easy for us, which is what you want when renovating. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very patient with all our questions and provided great advice on the design and installation. The workmanship was of high quality and the quote was highly competitive. Highly recommend Tony and his team!”
Bathroom renovations: stressless and wonderful
“Thank you, Tony and your team, for a stressless and wonderful bathroom renovation. Our 4-year-old townhouse bathroom and ensuite showers had serious leakage issues, with water leaking into the walls and between floors. The builder was happy to silicone the problem as a solution. The only options were to replace the showers, or a full renovation for both rooms. We chose the latter. Tony provided a competitive quote. Despite the inevitable out-of-square bathroom issues, the job was completed without stress, on-time and in budget, and the finish was fabulous. And square. We are now looking at a kitchen update. Tony, find some time. Highly recommend Tony and the team.”
Wow! Now that's a bathroom
“In such difficult times we were so grateful that we picked Tony and his crew to renovate our bathroom. His knowledge of the industry and his attention to detail is second to none. Tony was always easy to contact and happy to discuss any issues. The standard of workmanship was outstanding. We love our new bathroom!”
Renovating Bathrooms in Templestowe Homes
Many Templestowe homes still have bathrooms from the 1970s and 1980s, with coloured baths and basins, feature tiles, a separate toilet and a small ensuite off the main bedroom. Split-level layouts mean bathrooms can sit on different levels, and larger households often find the original bathrooms too small for the number of people using them.
Common bathroom projects here are full remodels of family bathrooms and ensuites, swapping shower-over-bath setups for walk-in showers with freestanding baths, upgrading waterproofing, tiling and ventilation, and creating a larger ensuite by borrowing space from a walk-in robe. On sloping sites we also check access to the existing drainage before moving a shower or toilet. A bathroom renovation in Templestowe seldom needs a planning permit from Manningham City Council; what matters is licensed plumbing, compliant waterproofing and the certificates to prove it, which we handle.

What to Plan For in a Templestowe Bathroom
Slope
Bathrooms on Different Levels
In Templestowe split-level homes, the main bathroom may sit half a level above the garage or rumpus room. Waste pipes have to fall to a sewer connection that may be on the low side of the block, which limits where a toilet or shower can move. We trace the drainage before drawing a new layout.
Design
Replacing Coloured Suites and Feature Tiles
Bathrooms from Templestowe’s 1970s building boom often still have coloured baths, basins and toilets with patterned feature tiles. A full renovation strips the room back to the frame so the floor can be regraded, waterproofed and retiled. We check the framing behind the old tiles once it is exposed.
Layout
Borrowing Space for the Ensuite
Original ensuites in Templestowe homes are often a small shower, toilet and basin beside a generous walk-in robe. Moving the dividing wall can make room for a double vanity and larger shower while keeping a usable robe. We check whether the wall is load-bearing and where the plumbing runs first.
Waterproofing
Upstairs Bathrooms Over Living Areas
Where a Templestowe bathroom sits over a family room or garage, a failed shower shows up as stained or sagging ceilings below. New work is waterproofed to the Australian Standard with a properly falling floor, and we look at the ceiling underneath for signs of past leaks during demolition.
Ventilation
Internal Ensuites Without Windows
Ensuites in larger Templestowe homes are often internal rooms with no window, relying on a small ceiling fan. A ducted exhaust fan vented outside, a skylight or roof window where the roof allows, and good lighting make the room feel bigger and help it dry between showers.

Does a Templestowe bathroom renovation need a permit from Manningham?
Internal bathroom work rarely needs a planning permit from Manningham City Council, even where a landscape or bushfire overlay applies to the land, because those overlays mainly deal with external buildings and works and vegetation. Structural changes may need a building permit. Licensed trades provide plumbing and electrical certificates at completion.
Can a bathroom be added downstairs in a Templestowe split-level home?
Often, yes. A lower-level bathroom or powder room near the rumpus room or garage suits teenagers, guests or older relatives. Because the lower level is usually closer to the sewer, drainage is often simpler there than upstairs. We check where the sewer connection is and whether a pump would be needed.
How long does a bathroom renovation in Templestowe take?
Most bathrooms take 2 to 4 weeks. Large Templestowe bathrooms with more tiling, or ensuites where a wall is moved, can take a little longer. Homes here often have more than one bathroom, so you can usually keep using another one while we work.
Can you design a bathroom for parents who will live with us?
Yes. In a larger Templestowe home, a bathroom on the entry level can have a step free shower, grab rails or wall reinforcement for them later, a comfort-height toilet and a wider door. These details can look like a normal modern bathroom. We plan around the person who will use it most.
Will updating bathrooms help when we sell our Templestowe home?
People inspecting large 1970s and 1980s Templestowe homes often see several dated bathrooms at once. Rather than renovating every one, fix leaks and cracked tiles throughout and focus on the main bathroom or ensuite that gets the most attention. New tapware, mirrors, lighting and fresh silicone can lift the others.
