What Our Clients Say

Powder room & laundry into a small bathroom
“We are delighted with our new bathroom. Tony made the entire process very easy for us, which is what you want when renovating. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very patient with all our questions and provided great advice on the design and installation. The workmanship was of high quality and the quote was highly competitive. Highly recommend Tony and his team!”
Bathroom renovations: stressless and wonderful
“Thank you, Tony and your team, for a stressless and wonderful bathroom renovation. Our 4-year-old townhouse bathroom and ensuite showers had serious leakage issues, with water leaking into the walls and between floors. The builder was happy to silicone the problem as a solution. The only options were to replace the showers, or a full renovation for both rooms. We chose the latter. Tony provided a competitive quote. Despite the inevitable out-of-square bathroom issues, the job was completed without stress, on-time and in budget, and the finish was fabulous. And square. We are now looking at a kitchen update. Tony, find some time. Highly recommend Tony and the team.”
Wow! Now that's a bathroom
“In such difficult times we were so grateful that we picked Tony and his crew to renovate our bathroom. His knowledge of the industry and his attention to detail is second to none. Tony was always easy to contact and happy to discuss any issues. The standard of workmanship was outstanding. We love our new bathroom!”
Renovating Bathrooms in Kooyong Homes
Kooyong is one of Melbourne’s smallest suburbs, set around Glenferrie Road, Gardiners Creek and Kooyong station, with mostly Federation and interwar homes, including double-storey semi-detached pairs, and interwar apartment blocks. Original bathrooms often had small hexagonal or square mosaic tiles over timber floors, and many were replaced decades ago with finishes now due for renewal.
Bathroom projects here usually involve rebuilding main bathrooms and ensuites with sound waterproofing, adding a bathroom upstairs in two-storey homes, choosing tiles and fittings that suit the era of the house, and fitting heating and good ventilation. Most interior work doesn’t need a planning permit from the City of Stonnington, and licensed trades handle every plumbing and electrical change.

Before You Start
Before You Renovate a Bathroom in Kooyong
Floors
Original Mosaic Floors
Some Kooyong bathrooms still have early mosaic floor tiles laid on a mortar bed over timber. They are hard to lift intact, and the bed often hides rotten boards or no waterproofing at all. If you like the look, reproduction hexagonal or square mosaics laid over a new membrane give a similar result on a sound, sealed base.
Neighbours
Semi-Detached Pairs
Kooyong’s interwar pairs share a wall with the house next door, and an upstairs bathroom may sit right against it. We keep new plumbing within your own walls, give the neighbours notice of noisy demolition days and take care with vibration near the shared wall. Work that affects the party wall itself may need protection work notices.
Plumbing
An Ensuite on the Upper Floor
In two-storey Kooyong homes, an ensuite carved from a bedroom or dressing room needs a route for waste pipes to the ground floor that avoids cutting through decorative ceilings below. Placing it over an existing ground-floor bathroom or laundry keeps pipe runs short. We check joist direction and ceiling details before the layout is settled.
Apartments
Interwar Apartment Bathrooms
Bathrooms in Kooyong’s interwar apartment blocks are often original in layout, with plumbing shared with the flats above and below. Replacing the waterproofing and floor waste usually needs owners corporation approval, and building rules limit work hours and noise. We prepare drawings and a clear method of work for the owners corporation before starting.
Heating
Warmth in Brick Houses
Bathrooms on the shaded side of a brick Federation or interwar house can stay chilly for much of the year. Electric underfloor heating under new tiles, a heated towel rail and a ceiling heater combined with the exhaust fan add comfort. Each needs suitable circuits, which our licensed electricians install and certify with a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

Bathroom Renovations In and Around Kooyong
Kooyong (3144) is about 7 km south-east of the Melbourne CBD, and well within our regular service area. We renovate bathrooms in Kooyong and its neighbouring suburbs, with the same team, the same fixed pricing and the same attention to detail.
Bathroom Renovations MelbourneCan you match the period style of my Kooyong bathroom?
Yes. For Federation and interwar homes we often suggest small mosaic or subway tiles, a pedestal or console basin and tapware with a traditional profile, combined with modern waterproofing and a frameless shower. The aim is a bathroom that suits the house without copying every original detail. We show you samples before ordering.
Do I need a permit for a bathroom renovation in Kooyong?
Interior bathroom work usually doesn’t need a planning permit from the City of Stonnington, even in the Kooyong heritage precinct (HO181), because heritage controls mostly cover external changes. A new window, external flue or ducting visible from the street may need one. Plumbing and electrical work is carried out by licensed trades with compliance certificates.
How long does a bathroom renovation take in a two-storey Kooyong home?
Most bathrooms take 2 to 4 weeks. An upstairs ensuite in a two-storey Kooyong house can take longer if new waste pipes have to come down through the house, or if the floor needs strengthening for a heavy bath. We inspect before quoting so the written schedule allows for this from the start.
What bathroom work helps before selling a Kooyong home?
In a Kooyong period home, buyers notice whether the bathrooms feel sound and suit the house. Regrouting, replacing worn tapware and vanity tops, fixing a leaking shower and improving ventilation are shorter jobs that present the rooms well. A full bathroom rebuild takes a few weeks and is best planned when you have time before listing or intend to stay.
