Powder room & laundry into a small bathroom

“We are delighted with our new bathroom. Tony made the entire process very easy for us, which is what you want when renovating. Nothing was too much trouble and he was very patient with all our questions and provided great advice on the design and installation. The workmanship was of high quality and the quote was highly competitive. Highly recommend Tony and his team!”

Bathroom renovations: stressless and wonderful

“Thank you, Tony and your team, for a stressless and wonderful bathroom renovation. Our 4-year-old townhouse bathroom and ensuite showers had serious leakage issues, with water leaking into the walls and between floors. The builder was happy to silicone the problem as a solution. The only options were to replace the showers, or a full renovation for both rooms. We chose the latter. Tony provided a competitive quote. Despite the inevitable out-of-square bathroom issues, the job was completed without stress, on-time and in budget, and the finish was fabulous. And square. We are now looking at a kitchen update. Tony, find some time. Highly recommend Tony and the team.”

Tony was always easy to contact and happy to discuss any issues. The standard of workmanship was outstanding. We love our new bathroom!”

Renovating Bathrooms in Notting Hill Homes

Notting Hill’s brick homes, many from the AV Jennings Westerfield Estate and the decades that followed, typically have a main bathroom with coloured tiles and a shower over the bath, plus a separate toilet and sometimes a small ensuite with a cramped shower. Units and townhouses tend to have one or two compact bathrooms, and rental properties near Monash University often need a hard-wearing update.

Typical Notting Hill bathroom projects include replacing original tiles and vanities, converting a shower over bath to a walk-in shower, enlarging small ensuites by borrowing space from a robe, and redoing waterproofing that has failed over time. Most bathroom renovations here don’t need a planning permit from the City of Monash, and for units we check whether an owners corporation needs to be involved.

Before You Start

Before You Renovate a Bathroom in Notting Hill

  1. Design

    Coloured Tile Bathrooms

Pastel and feature-coloured tiles from the 1960s and 1970s are still common in Notting Hill bathrooms. Some owners like the colour and pick it up again in new tiles, while others prefer neutral finishes. Either way, removing the old tiles shows the real condition of the wall framing and floor, which we allow for in the quote.

  2. Layout

    Enlarging a Small Ensuite

Ensuites in Notting Hill’s brick homes often squeeze a shower, toilet and basin into a narrow space off the main bedroom. Borrowing space from the built-in robe beside it can allow a wider shower and a longer vanity. We check the wall framing, the ceiling and the drain locations before redrawing the room.

  3. Waterproofing

    Slab or Timber Floor

Depending on when and how it was built, a Notting Hill bathroom may sit on a concrete slab or a timber floor. A slab makes a step-free shower harder, because the floor has to be recessed or the rest of the room built up. We work out the floor type and falls early, then waterproof to the Australian Standard.

  4. Rentals

    Bathrooms in Shared Rentals

Houses near Monash University let to several tenants put heavy demand on a single bathroom. Adding a second toilet, a separate basin or a small extra shower room, and choosing robust tapware and screens, reduces queues and maintenance calls. We plan the layout around how the house is actually used by the people living there.

  5. Apartments

    Units With an Owners Corporation

Many Notting Hill units have an owners corporation that controls shared plumbing, external walls and work hours. Bathroom changes affecting any of these may need its approval before work starts. We prepare the scope and drawings and coordinate access with neighbours, so the owners corporation has what it needs to assess the request.

FAQ

Bathroom Renovations Notting Hill: Your Questions

Ask Us Anything
Is it worth keeping the coloured tiles in my Notting Hill bathroom?

If the tiles are intact and the waterproofing beneath is sound, regrouting and new fittings can freshen them. In many 1960s and 1970s Notting Hill bathrooms, though, leaks behind the tiles mean the waterproofing needs replacing, and that means removing them. We check for signs of leaks before recommending a refresh or a full renovation.

How long does a Notting Hill bathroom renovation take?

Most bathrooms take 2 to 4 weeks. An ensuite kept to the same layout is usually quicker, while enlarging into a robe or recessing a concrete slab for a walk-in shower takes longer. We give you a written schedule up front, and if it is your only bathroom we talk through how to manage the weeks it is out of use.

Do Notting Hill units need approval for bathroom renovations?

If the unit is part of an owners corporation, approval is often needed for plumbing changes, noisy work and work hours. Internal bathroom work rarely needs a planning permit from the City of Monash. We help prepare the information the owners corporation asks for and work within its rules once approval is given.

How should I prepare a Notting Hill bathroom for leasing?

For homes leased near Monash University, the bathroom needs to stand up to heavy daily use. Fix leaks, reseal joints, replace a cracked vanity or broken tiles, and make sure the exhaust fan works to limit mould. Shower screens and tapware that are easy to clean help between tenancies. A full renovation makes sense when the waterproofing has failed.
